Dear Students,

Welcome to İstanbul Bilgi University. Since its foundation, BİLGİ has endeavored to create a unique place for intellectual development within the scope of university life in Turkey. When we look back at what has been accomplished over the past twenty years, twenty-five thousand students and an alumni group of almost thirty thousand, we can happlily see that our efforts have not been in vain.

Studying at a university means encountering knowledge at a different level. The skills that you obtain will allow you to embrace and consider concepts multi-dimensionally. You will learn to add historic depth to a concept or analyze it by solving its complexity. Additionally, you will create new opportunities and new solutions in the fields of economics, social life and technology. A university is an exceptional place where research is as important as learning and social activities are as valuable as projects.

The years you wil spend at BİLGİ will be the most valuable and fruitful years of your lives. You will be expected to “create inventions”, question, think and place your thoughts within the framework of a concept.

As a university that has always been closely intertwined with society and the development of society, BİLGİ exists to not only prepare you for life but to also help you build your life and change it and assist you in creating new solutions.

Your university education should not be just about the lessons you attend, the hours you spend at the library and the class notes you rewrite. Every performance you attend, every concert you go to, all the audio and visual media you follow will play an important role in your development and in your education. For that reason, it would be in your best interest to attend selective, rational, questioning and creative activities throughout your university life. BİLGİ has formed in such a way to allow you to not only receive a real university education but to also experience all a university can offer thanks to the more than one hundred student clubs, the more than one thousand academic and cultural activities and the many social responsibility projects.

İstanbul Bilgi University continues to be an exceptional institution of higher education where the basic and applied sciences are learned concurrently, the university exists as part of the community, offers all the opportunities available to a city university open to the world and prepares for the future by questioning what happens today. The university aims to do this by elevating basic principles like pluralism, understanding, respect for every individual and freedom. BİLGİ’s achievements are our achievements.

In order to experience these achievements together, I have full faith that you will make use of your university years in the best possible way. I wish you all a fruitful term in this new academic year.
